Overview
Potentia Energy submitted a development application for the proposed Capricorn BESS project to the Rockhampton Regional Council in February 2025. Subject to obtaining the necessary approvals, construction of the proposed project is targeted to commence in the second half of 2026, with operations due to begin in mid 2028. The estimated investment value of the proposed project would be more than $500 million.
Subject to obtaining the necessary approvals, the Capricorn BESS would comprise of shipping containers which are fitted with the battery units and control equipment associated with inverters and power transformers. The layout would be arranged in a grid pattern with enough space to allow access around each unit. A substation would be constructed within the project area to enable connection via underground cabling to the closely located Bouldercombe Substation, owned by Powerlink.
The Capricorn Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project is now on public exhibition. Details of the exhibition and the DA package can be viewed on the Rockhampton Regional Council website.

The survey results will inform local community benefit sharing initiatives, where feasible and aligned with the company values, policies and capabilities. We appreciate local community members time to contribute to the survey. If you would like to discuss your feedback in further details, please contact us.

The Public Exhibition will run from 9 September to 30 September. During this period, all relevant information will be available on the Rockhampton Regional Council website. Submissions must be made directly through the Rockhampton Regional Council website.
