Overview
The Tallawang Solar Hybrid Project is located approximately 8 km Northwest of Gulgong in New South Wales. The project will comprise of the construction and operation of a 500 megawatt (MW) Solar Farm and a 500 MW/1000 MWh Battery Energy Storage System and, related civil and electrical infrastructure.
The project is targeted to commence pre-construction activities in 2026, with construction activities targeted to start in 2027, and operations due to begin in 2030.

Project Approvals
The Tallawang Solar Hybrid project is approved as a State Significant Development in accordance with Environmental Planning Assessment Act 1979.
The Approvals set out conditions that must be complied with in undertaking the development. The conditions cover construction, operation, decommissioning, and administrative matters.

Project development and planning
The project was originally initiated and progressed through planning by RES, who acted as the proponent during the early development phase.
2022
Submission of Development Application
A Development Application for Tallawang Solar Farm as State Significant Development, in accordance with Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, was submitted to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment (DPE).
2024
Project acquisition
Tallawang Solar Hybrid Farm was acquired by Potentia Energy in mid 2024. Potentia Energy commenced working closely with RES to continue the development of the project and ensure a smooth transition for local community stakeholders.
2025
Development Approval
In July 2025, the project was referred for determination to the NSW Independent Planning Commission (IPC) by the NSW Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI).
In October 2025, the IPC determined to grant consent to the project’s Development Application.
