Potentia Energy’s Commitment to Local Community Fund

27 May 2025 Tags - No Tags

At Potentia Energy we are committed to delivering significant local community benefits, focused on positively contributing to the long-term growth of communities where we operate.

An initiative we have implemented at Flat Rocks Wind Farm Stage 1 is a Community Fund, which has been in place since 2023. We provide up to $75,000 per year across the Shires of Kojonup and Broomehill-Tambellup to help support and fund Not-For-Profit organisations undertaking local initiatives that benefit the local community to the wind farm.

Since the establishment of the Community Fund, Potentia Energy has proudly supported many local community organisations including:

  •  Kojonup Sports Alliance
  • Kojonup Playgroup
  • St Bernad’s Catholic Primary School
  • Tambellup Golf Club
  • The Gillamii Centre
  • The Tambellup Aboriginal Progress Association
  • The Kojonup Golf Club
  • The Kojonup Cricket Club
  • The Tambellup Community Cropping Group
  • The Tambellup Community Resource Centre
  • The Country Women’s Association.

The 2023 and 2024 editions of the Community Fund were a success. Through the fund we were able to support the purchase a 12-seater bus, repair Tambellup’s Golf Club kitchen floors, upgrade Kojonup’s cricket nets and provide essential resources for the Barna Mia camp, among other initiatives.

The following provides a snapshot of the local impact delivered through the Community Fund, shared by the words of the incredible local organisations who brought these projects to life.

Broomehill Recreational Complex – Community Bus

The availability of a bus will provide a much safer transport option for our member clubs when travelling to away fixtures, these can be as far as 150km one way. The availability and expense of suitable transport is also one of the more difficult logistical challenges for junior teams attending carnivals and country week. This is also a factor for school camps and excursions run by the Broomehill Primary School and P&C. A locally available bus will be of enormous benefit when planning and attending these events.  The funding was spent on the purchase of a 12-seat bus. This will be an ongoing benefit to the sporting clubs associated with the complex as well as other groups from the wider community.

Tambellup Golf Club Kitchen floors repairs

The Tambellup Golf Club sustained significant damage to their kitchen floor after a storm destroyed the roof in that section.

The funding money went towards removing the kitchen floor, assessing the damage and the best solution to fix the sinking stumps. The outcome was to inload sand, compact and lay cement over the top which makes it a very sustainable future proof floor. As a result, we now have an operational kitchen for the golf club which allows us to move forward with planning and hosting local events, carnivals and the venue being available to the community.

Kojonup Cricket Club – Nets resurface

Upgrading the local Kojonup nets so they can be used by all members of the community. Offer a safe and high-quality environment for them to use. The funding was used to upgrade our local nets that were in much need of a new life. The community will benefit for years to come by having a safe and top of range facility to use by all, juniors to seniors

Gillamii Centre – Barna Mia Camp

Year six students from Cranbrook, Frankland River, and Tambellup Primary School experience the Dryandra Woodlands and the biodiversity it has to offer. Students travel to the Dryandra Woodlands National Park, where more than 850 species of flora and fauna can be seen throughout the year, and learn from our incredible DBCA officers about conservation in action. This camp compliments the on-going Connecting Kids to Country environmental education program, which aims to support positive environmental attitudes and increase knowledge and awareness within our future stewards of the landscape.

The funding was utilised to support essential resources for the camp, contributing to supporting the accommodation for students at the Dryandra Woodlands, transport, and conservation activities run by DBCA for the students. This conservation camp supported 25 rural students from Cranbrook, Tambellup, and Frankland River Primary Schools to learn about our unique Flora and Fauna and upskill in their conservation knowledge, enhancing and fostering strong environmental values. The Barna Mia camp offers a hands-on interactive and memorable experience to students and wouldn’t be possible without community and industry support.

The Community Fund is creating real, lasting impact across the Broomehill-Tambellup and Kojonup communities and it’s here to stay for the life of the project. Applications for the 2025 funding are now open, with successful applications awarded in June 2025.
